Privacy Policy

Shopika Enterprise Ltd ("Shopika", "we") is the data controller for Shopika WiFi. We process personal data in line with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019 and its regulations.

What we collect

• Phone number — to send M-Pesa prompts, receipts, sign-in codes and service messages, and to find your packages.
• Device identifiers — the network (MAC) address and IP address your device uses at the hotspot, a device cookie, and the browser type.
• Usage — when you connect and disconnect, which hotspot and router you used, and how much data you used.
• Payment information — the amount, the M-Pesa transaction code and the paying phone number. We never see or store your M-Pesa PIN.
• Messages — what you write to support, and your name and email if you add them to your account.

Why we use it

To provide the package you bought (contract), to take and verify payment, to prevent fraud and abuse and keep the network secure (legitimate interest), to keep records the law requires (legal obligation), and to send offers only if you opt in (consent). We do not record the websites you visit or the content of your traffic.

Who we share it with

Safaricom (M-Pesa) to process payments; our SMS provider to deliver texts; the agent who runs the hotspot you used, who sees sales and masked phone numbers for that hotspot only; and authorities when Kenyan law requires it. We do not sell personal data.

Where it is stored

Our servers are hosted by Contabo GmbH in Germany (European Union). Data sent there is protected by the safeguards of the Data Protection Act and by EU data-protection law (GDPR).

How long we keep it

• Visit and analytics events: 180 days.
• Connection records (usage per session): 400 days.
• Orders, payments and receipts: as long as Kenyan tax and accounting law requires (usually 7 years).
• Sign-in codes: until they expire; only a scrambled form of each code is stored.

Your rights

You may ask to see, correct or delete your data, object to its use, withdraw consent for marketing, or receive a copy. Contact us below. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC).

Cookies

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and to remember your purchase on this browser, and a device cookie so that we can recognise your device when you come back. We do not use advertising cookies on the WiFi portal.
